Spring is here, and warmer temps encourage you to spend more time outdoors, whether it is for personal enjoyment or hosting outdoor activities with your friends and family. Spending more time in the backyard usually means a lot of backyard cleaning. To be prepared, a bit of spring cleaning and maintenance is required. No one wants to spend time in an unkempt outdoor with lots of accumulated debris and decomposing organic material from the previous season. Below are a few things you should have on your checklist, and mark them off as soon as possible. Clean the Fireplace/ Fire Pit This one applies to people who have been using the outdoor/patio fireplace or those who own a backyard fire pit. Now that winter is over, it is time to clean out and check for any safety concerns. This will make your outdoor spaces safe and clean enough to entertain guests since cleaning the fire pit will make it more habitable. Clean the Patio Refrigerator You will want to be prepared for anything by being ready for the season. It is easier to clean your indoor kitchen fridge and freezer, but the one on the patio is often forgotten. As you check through your spring cleaning list, make sure to include the patio fridge. Throw away expired food and thoroughly clean the refrigerator before restocking the relevant supplies needed for entertaining guests. Focus on cleaning spills and organizing content in the fridge. Everything stored in there should be easy to find and grab. This makes it more fun to entertain guests as people don't have to go all the way inside the house to find cooking ingredients or drinks. Clean and Organize the Storage Shed It would also help to look at the storage shed in your backyard. It does not matter if it is a gardening shed or a storage shed for odds and ends. Springtime is the most appropriate time to bring everything out, assess, and de-clutter before giving this space a thorough clean and rearranging. This is an excellent time to separate items you hardly use from those you use regularly. Give away, or resale items cluttering the storage shed and clean those you plan on returning to the storage area. Once you have all the things you want to keep, you can now organize everything and use some of the newfound space from the items you no longer have. You should categorize items depending on their use, reliability, and size. Use storage boxes and shelves where necessary. For large machinery like the lawnmower, make sure to store them in a dry and elevated corner. The bottom line is to organize the storage shed to allow you to reach for items when needed easily and quickly. Clean Gutters There may be a significant accumulation of dirt in your gutters. You can call an expert to help with this before the next rains come. If you are comfortable doing it yourself, get the necessary tools and spend an afternoon cleaning and repairing damaged gutters. Repair Cracked Patio and Walkways Inspect the patio and check for any dents and areas that may need to be repaired. Closing any cracks will help prevent weeds and plants from growing where they shouldn't. Your patio will look more presentable this way.
