His family moved to Canada when he was 15 years old because of his father’s business venture as a property developer. At the age of 16, he attended Saint Mary’s College of California in Moraga, California where he played basketball as well as hockey for his school’s team.

Fox attended Michigan State University from 2003 to 2006 and played for MSU from 2006 to 2007 (in which he received All-Big Ten honors). He then transferred to the University of Texas for one year before transferring back to MSU for another year in 2008.

He majored in English literature in Texas and graduated with a degree in English literature in 2010. After graduation, he went on to pursue a career on the big screen through acting roles such as “Finding Neverland” (2004), “The Constant Gardener” (2005), “Midnight Run” (2006), “RoboCop” (1987), “Aeon Flux” (1999) and more recently ” with Kevin Spacey (2015).

In February 2015 Fox was selected by Minnesota Timberwolves as the number 24 overall pick in the NBA Draft but did not sign with them until June 23rd due to injuries that caused him to miss most of the training camp during the 2014–15 season.[4] The Timberwolves later traded him along with their second-round draft pick Brandon Knight on June 26th, 2015[5] He finished his rookie season averaging 5 points per game on a 3% shooting percentage from three-point range.[6]

In April 2011, following a series of late-season injuries,[7] Rick earned an NBA Sixth Man Award nomination by averaging 12 minutes per game while shooting 40% from a three-point position over 18 games.[8][9] The next month, Rick was named NBA Western Conference Player of the Week after posting 18 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists against the Oklahoma City Thunder.[10][11] In December 2013, during an overtime game against Philadelphia 76ers,[12] Rick recorded 15 points,[13][14] 13 rebounds,[15][16][17] 8 assists[18], 4 steals,[19][20] 4.

Rick Fox is one of the most successful Canadian basketball players of all time. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 and was then inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. In addition to playing for the Toronto Raptors, Rick Fox also played for the Vancouver Grizzlies on a short-term basis from 1989 to 1992.

For many years, he was a member of the University of Washington Huskies basketball team, where he won two NCAA championships in 1976 and 1977. He was also named a four-time First Team All American, a three-time Naismith College Player of the Year, and an NABC All American as a junior.
